Sharemate FAQ

Q: What are the system requirements to install Sharemate?
A:Windows 7 x64 or higher & 26 MB of free disk space

Q: Do I need to purchase Sharegate to migrate SharePoint content using Sharemate’s output file?
A: Yes. Once the script is generated using Sharemate, Sharegate is required to run the script.

Q: What Version of SharePoint does Sharemate migrate from?
A: Sharemate can migrate SharePoint 2007, SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013 content.

A: Sharemate can migrate to SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint 2016 farms and Office365/SharePoint Online.

Q: Can I automate the migration from Fileshares?
A: Not yet. We are working on a version of Sharemate to automate the migration from legacy fileshares to SharePoint.

Q: Can multiple users work in Sharemate?
A: Sharemate only supports a single concurrent connection to the SAT file. Currently only one user should be working in the same migration file at a time.

Q: No one else is using Sharemate and I keep getting the error message: “This file is being used. Please select another input file here”. What do I do?
A: Navigate to the directory you chose to save the .sat file to. In the ribbon, click on the View tab and check “Hidden Items”. You should see another .sat file with the same
name as your .sat file that starts with a ~$. Simply delete this file and try to run Sharemate again.

Q: Why can’t I connect to the SharePoint SQL server?
A: Sharemate users should be given “public” permissions to connect to the SharePoint SQL server, and “db_datareader” permissions to all SharePoint databases (configuration and content databases).

Q: Why is the script failing to create new Site Collections?
A: The user running the script should be added to the Web Application User Policy and given full control.

Q: Why is the row containing the root site read only?
A: When your SharePoint environment is ready, the root site will be already created, so whatever changes you are making to that row in Sharemate, wouldn’t be reflected in the script.

Q: Can Sharemate create Managed Paths?
A: No. You must create a managed path prior to running the script.

Q: What is the difference between querying SharePoint content directly from SQL versus through web services?
A: Users don’t need special SQL access to return results from SharePoint through the web service call. In addition, The web service call only returns content from one site collection at a time.
